When should I hire a doula?

It is ideal to hire a doula earlier on in your pregnancy. That way, it is more likely that your chosen doula will have availability. Anywhere from 12 weeks on is fine.

I am late into my pregnancy, is it too late to hire a doula?

Not necessarily. Sometimes doulas have last minute availability. It never hurts to ask. If I am unavailable, I am happy to help you find another doula who is through my registry, Memphis Doulas.

What kind of births do doulas support?

While all doulas have their own styles of practice, I am happy to support births in a variety of settings. Home, birth center, or hospital. Under the care of midwives or doctors. Most of my experience is in the hospital setting, but I am very comfortable out of hospital as well.

How long have you been a doula?

I have been a doula for 9 years–6 of which were in one of the most established birth communities in the country: Los Angeles. In LA I was able to learn a lot about the actual work of being a doula, as well as the professional aspects of running a business. I have been a mentor to new doulas nearly the entire time, because I truly believe that we thrive together. Professionalism and integrity are extremely important to me in my practice, as is maintaining my continuing education, and being up to date on evidence based practices and patient rights.

How many clients do you take per month?

At this time I am no longer taking birth clients. If you need a birth doula, I am happy to help you find someone! If you still want to work with me surrounding your birth, you are welcome and encouraged to take my comprehensive Embodied Birthing childbirth education series, and/or receive somatic care.
